Board of Directors’ Meeting

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 18:00 by President Neil Frame

Attendance and Explantion of Absences

Approval of the August 20, 2025 Board Meeting Minutes

  • Motion made, seconded and unanimously approved

Public Comment & Announcements

  • No public comment

Financial Reports

Review of June financials

  • The August2025 financial report was presented by Christina Jantzef.
  • Total operating budget is at 67% for the year.
  • Revenue is at 87% for the year.

A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to accept the year-to-date financials as presented.  

Reports of Officers, Committees, Professional Consultants

Administrators/Training Coordinator - Lt. Max Herte

  • GFPD participated in the Big Chili Cook-off on Saturday, September 6. Members made the award-winning Genesee Fire’s Big Red, which won the “Best Red” People's Choice Award.
  • New tech gear was purchased to equip every firefighter with lightweight and breathable gear designed for wildland and everyday use not related to structure fire incidents.
  • Genesee Fire Rescue members participated in the Colorado 9/11 Stair Climb.  Members raised $6,200 for the charity Stair Climb.  Colorado hosts the biggest in the country with proceeds benefiting 9/11 charities.
  • GFPD responded to a mutual aid hazmat incident on I-70 on August 27. A tanker carrying hydrochloric acid was leaking its contents while traveling westbound. This incident was quickly upgraded to a Level A incident, with both lanes of traffic impacted. Lt. Max Herte participated in the hazmat operation while wearing a Level A suit. The incident lasted five hours, causing major traffic delays in the area.
  • The Evergreen Fire Academy has completed a month and a half's worth of training thus far. Genesee Fire has three recruit participants actively engaged in this training.

Apparatus Coordinator - Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

  • Total calls are at 212 for the year with 38% medical dropping in August.
  • Deputy Chief Greenstone is happy to report that call responses continue to remain high.

Apparatus - Chief Josh Boyles

  • All apparatus are currently in service.
  • 971 is experiencing rough transmission problems.
  • Staff has found a solution to faulty pump issues regarding the foam distribution on 932.

Recruiting - Lt. Kris Kleiner

  • Recruitment numbers continue to rise with three cadets currently in the Evergreen Fire Academy, with one recruit joining in January and one other new recruit completing paperwork and background checks.
  • This increase of members will put GFPD at a total of thirty-one members.

Medical - Chief Josh Boyles

  • Three members of GFPD will attend the 2025 Annual Colorado State EMS Conference in Keystone, November 6-9.

Wildland - Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

  • Four members of GFPD were deployed to the Stoner Mesa Fire south west of Telluride, Colorado.
  • GFPD is actively looking for future fall wildland training for the fall of 2025.
  • A total of $90,000 has been billed thus far for wildland deployments during the summer and fall of 2025.

Auxiliary - Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

  • The GFPD Auxiliary is planning the annual Open House on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Activities will welcome the community as they visit the firehouse and participate in activities for families, fire safety awareness, and demonstrations covering vehicle extrication and wildland preparedness.

Old Business

EAR Update - Owner's Representative Will Quinby

  • Work on the EAR has begun with a “Pioneer Road” that extends 33,000 feet into the project.
  • Planning continues to dedicate a disposal area at the Tot Lot with 9,000 cubic yards of material from the EAR. The placement is intended to serve as a noise abatement barrier, as requested by a nearby resident, to block the use of the chipper operated by the Genesee Foundation crews.
  • Negotiations with Exel regarding access to a road for a replaced power pole is ongoing.

  • No new updates are available at this time.

New Business

2026 Budget -  Chief Josh Boyles

  • A draft budget for GFPD 2026 was presented to the Board of Directors for their review. Possible large-ticket items include:
    • A drone for use in wildland and large-scale operations in the field.
    • Bay floor replacement at Station One.
  • Executive Session. 24-6-402(4)(f), C.R.S., Staff pay adjustments for 2026
    • Motion to move to Executive Session. Pause in the meeting taken by the Board of Directors to observe the Executive Session.
