Board of Directors’ Meeting

August 20, 2025

 

 

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 18:00 by President Neil Frame

Attendance and Explantion of Absences

Board Members in Attendance: Neil Frame, Mark Villa, Greg Klaiber, Branch Russell, Keith Dierking (Zoom)

Also Attending: Will Quinby, Josh Boyles, Max Herte and Doug Barenburg

Approval of the July 16, 2025 Board Meeting Minutes

  • Motion made, seconded and unanimously approved

Public Comment & Announcements

  • No public comment

Financial Reports

Review of June financials

  • The July 2025 financial report was presented by Christina Jantzef.
  • Total operating budget is at 58% for the year.

A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to accept the year-to-date financials as presented.  

Reports of Officers, Committees, Professional Consultants

Administrators/Training Coordinator - Lt. Max Herte

  • Fire Academy has begun and a total of twenty-fi ve cadets are participating from four mountain agencies - Evergreen, Foothills, Indian Hills and Genesee Fire
  • GFPD has three cadets in the Evergreen Fire Academy with one joining in January.
  • Rope Rescue Low Angle equipment has arrived and interest in training is growing among members.
  • GFPD had two crews deployed to Colorado wildfires.  

Apparatus Coordinator - Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

  • A portable Starlink is now available as a “roamer” device for different apparatus.
  • With Starlink service the department saves $400 annually due to cancelled cell phones for apparatuses.

Facilities Coordinator - Chief Josh Boyles

  • The chief is still working on a vendor for the exterior door replacements.

Medical - Captain Doug Barenburg

  • The Department hosted CPR training for Lookout Mountain Preschool.
  • Firefi ghter Mark Hersfi eld completed and passed his EMT school.
  • The Department outreach, 3rd Friday BBQ on August 15 had 250 attendees from the community visiting Station One..

Community Liason - Chief Josh Boyles

    • Kim Marklund hosted an Autism Awareness for fi refi ghters at Alpine Rescue. 

    Old Business

    EAR Update - Owner's Representative Will Quinby

    • Will Quinby is hosting the Emergency Access Route offi cial ground breaking on August 21.
      • Work on the EAR has begun with a “Pioneer Road” that extends 1,450 feet into the project.
      • Planning is underway for dedicated disposal areas with one proposed for on-site and another at the Genesee Foundation Tot Lot that will serve as noise abatement.
      • Negotiations with Exel regarding access to a road for a replaced power pole is ongoing.

    New Business

    Emergency Alert System

    • Director Greg Klaiber would like the Genesse Board of Directors to begin discussions in the first quarter of 2026 on a proposal to support a community-wide advanced emergency alert system. Due to ineffective cell tower communication in the district, Director Klaiber suggested that the Board look into the matter of an advanced warning system in case of community emergencies.
      • Director Klaiber feels strongly that it is the responsibility of the Board to address such an issue.
      • Members of the Board have recognized the importance of such a proposed emergency alert system.
      • Chief Boyles believes that Comcast may have an interest in this matter.
